Be the Change

“Be the change that you want to see.”  I’m not sure where I picked this quote up, but it has continually been on my mind.  It seems that so many of us are good at pointing out the shortcomings in our world.  However, we do very little to fill in the gaps that we see.

Do you want there to be more love and understanding in your family?  Then you should be more loving and understanding.  Do you think there needs to be a greater emphasis on helping the poor?  Then you help the poor.  Do you want peace in our world?  Then be a person at peace with yourself and with others.

Don’t just hope for change; be the change.

    attitude is a choice
the cup can be half full or half empty
    every person must choose

    I agree with your paragraph

  2. Matt,
I saw this quote on a bumper sticker about two months ago and, as you said, it really stuck in my mind. It goes along with the theory of “attraction” that is put forth in the book, “The Secret,” except that book is more about attracting wealth, success, etc., not about attracting peace, love, and a better world.

Anyway, since seeing the quote, I have been trying to practice it, but I find it very hard. It is much easier to criticize and try to get others to change than to change myself.

  3. Melanie,

I’ve not read the book you mention, but will take a look at it (eventually, the book list is piling up). This idea falls into the “simple, but not easy” category. Simple idea, difficult to implement. At least you are trying, which is far better than most.
