Here is a link to a story that appeared in Friday’s Knoxville News-Sentinel about Larry Bohannon: http://knoxnews.com/news/2007/dec/14/man-attack-says-he-was-helping-lost-soul/.
In summary: Bohannon picked up a prostitute and took her back to her motel room in order, as he says, to “share his Christian testimony.” Once inside the room, he was confronted by a man wielding a knife along with the prostitute’s baby. He was assaulted and his car was stolen. Later, the police stop the assailant and Bohannon gets his car back. He did not want to press charges, but his assailant was arrested anyway.
If you read the story and then look at the comments, you can tell what most people think about what happened. I’m not here to pass judgement on Bohannon. Instead, I think that it is important to look at scripture.
“Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall”–I Corinthians 10:12.
In other words, it is very easy to pass judgement on someone while forgetting that we have done things and have not been caught that could make us look as bad as Bohannon and possibly worse.
We have an amazing need to jump on someone else, yet when we fail we want grace.
Grace–one more reason for Christmas.
